Professor Pearse Keane
MD MSc FRCOphth MRCSI
Pearse Keane is Professor of Artificial Medical Intelligence at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and a consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Since 2020, he has been funded by UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) as a Future Leaders Fellow, and in 2023 he became a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Senior Investigator. He is originally from Ireland and received his medical degree from University College Dublin (UCD), graduating in 2002. In 2016, he initiated a collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital and Google DeepMind, with the aim of developing artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for the earlier detection and treatment of retinal disease.

Professor Nicholas Rumney
Professor Rumney is an Optometrist and Owner/Director and joined BBR in 1991. He qualified in 1980 before becoming a Member of the College of Optometrists and GOC registered in 1981. He went on to gain his MSc from the University of Melbourne in 1986. In 1994 he gained a Fellowship with the College of Optometrists in low vision and ocular disease modules. In 2012 he gained a Diploma in Therapeutics, and Professional Certificate Medical Retina in 2014. In 2016 he was awarded the Philip Cole Research Excellence Award.
Professor Simon Barnard
PhD, FCOptom, FAAO, DipCLP, DipClinOptom DipTh(IP)
Professor Simon Barnard, a distinguished Optometrist, graduated with First Class Honours from City University in 1976. His extensive career spans academia and clinical practice, including positions at NOOR Eye Hospital in Kabul and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. As a Visiting Professor at Hadassah College in Jerusalem and Director of Ocular Medicine at the Institute of Optometry in London, he focuses on paediatric Optometry and learning difficulties. Professor Barnard's contributions extend beyond patient care—he has served on boards, received prestigious fellowships, published numerous papers, co-edited textbooks, and co-invented the Volk Eye Check. With over 150 international presentations, he champions an evidence-based approach in his clinical interests

Dr Alicia Thompson
With a 35-year career in optics, this individual's dedication to learning and passion for the field is remarkable. Starting as an Optical Technician and progressing to become a Dispensing Optician. Alicia's has managed a successful practice and held roles in teaching and examining, completed advanced courses in spectacle lens design and obtained a degree, allowing Alicia to pursue research. Recently, Alicia completed a part-time PhD focused on improving spectacle frame design for children. Alicia actively contributes to committees and have been invited to speak at conferences worldwide.

Paul Adler
Paul Adler is a highly regarded community Optometrist, clinical teacher, and researcher specialising in binocular vision and learning difficulties. He holds specialist qualifications in contact lenses and Behavioural Optometry and has received accolades for his contributions to the field. With roles at renowned institutions such as the Institute of Optometry and Special Olympics Opening Eyes (GB), Paul has demonstrated expertise as a senior examiner and consultant. He has published numerous articles and papers, collaborated with prestigious organisations, and made educational videos, solidifying his impact in the field.
