This practical, hands-on workshop utilises dummy heads with specialist-designed eyes that simulate a real cornea with foreign bodies implanted for practice removal and to stimulate discussion. Infection prevention and control will be discussed as well as the use of anaesthetics. The workshop will commence with a brief introduction to the simulation equipment, removal considerations and equipment and techniques. The attendees will then conduct practice in small, facilitated groups. The attendees will be required to locate the foreign body, assess its location/depth, assess if it is safe to remove, make appropriate decisions on method of removal including needle and algers brush, and practice removal. The attendees will also be required to discuss correctly completed records and referral notes as necessary.
