"Synopsis and DeliveryThis skills workshop is delivered as part of a course for qualified DOs on refractive management, to support them to be at the same standards expected in the ABDO 2023 syllabus in ophthalmic dispensing. This practical workshop will take the delegates through a series of tasks which the DO can perform when managing a patient who requires dispensing but has either not just competed an eye examination. Circumstances include a patient who has returned to the practice for dispensing sometime after their eye examination but before their recall period is finished and those who have been examined elsewhere. The tasks are part of those required to enable the DO to be confident as to whether the patient is suitable to be dispensed with the current prescription or should be referred to an optometrist before dispensing. The DO is familiar with all the procedures on a theoretical basis upon qualification and the purpose of this session is to bring their theoretical knowledge into confident application. Working in small, facilitated groups and further into pairs, the delegates will have 5-10 minutes to practice each task."
